Serena Outclasses Sharapova to Win Australian Open

I know this is mainly a music blog but I had to include this remarkable achievement.

Sky Sports reports that:

Serena Williams claimed the Australian Open title as she proved too powerful for Maria Sharapova.
The unseeded American won 6-1 6-2 in just 63 minutes in Melbourne and win her eighth Grand Slam event.

The 25-year-old made a mockery of her world ranking of 81 going into the tournament with an assured display of power tennis that overwhelmed the Russian.

This makes three Australian Open titles having previously won in 2003 and 2005."This one's right up there with the top," Williams, who dedicated the win to her sister Yetunde, who died in 2003, said.

"I was driven. This morning I woke up and felt different, I felt good".

"It was an awesome win because I had so many critics, so many people talking bad and saying negative things and saying I wasn't fit when I felt that I was really fit and could last three sets and two-and-a-half or three hours no worries."

Williams becomes the second unseeded player in the professional era to lift the title following Chris O'Neill's success in 1978.

She will now move up to 14th in the rankings when they are published on Monday.[Source]

I am so happy for Serena. I know her critics hate this victory. They have already written both she and Venus off. Now, I just need Venus to come back with a vengeance.

I know they've both still got it in them to win even more tournaments for more years to come and prove all their critics wrong.

I am glad Serena's bounced back into the game of tennis. She show 'em what she got most definitely.

Get 'em Serena!
