Mary covers Vibe Magazine

The Queen of Hip-Hop Soul and eight-time Grammy nominee(yeah that's right, 8 times!), graces the cover of the March and 150th issue of Vibe Magazine(damn it's been that long!) What a fitting choice for this milesone issue and this time they got the job right compared to the last Vibe cover that she featured in and was not happy about.

New Video: John Legend-p.d.a.(We Just Don't Care)

I'm pleased this song is being released as a single. It's one of my personal favourites from the Once Again album. The video isn't what I imagined when I heard the song but it's still pretty good.

Will Smith Honoured with Modern Master Award

Will Smith was honored with the Modern Master Award an honor that says he is a master of his craft at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival.

Smith is nominated for a best-actor Oscar for his performance in "The Pursuit of Happyness" as a struggling single father in San Francisco who beats the odds and goes from rags to riches.

Asked what it takes to be a good father, Smith said patience, compassion and commitment. He's the father of three in real life, including 7-year-old Jaden, who co-stars in the movie.

"You've got to really want to be a good father," he told reporters on the red carpet outside the Arlington Theatre on Saturday night.

Tom Cruise presented the festival's Modern Master Award to Smith.

Hot New Releases 29/01/2007

Megan Rochell-You Me & The Radio
Hot new album from this Brooklyn-born Philly-based Def Jam signing. Managed by Nathan Morris from Boyz II Men and signed by LA Reid, this is a stunning debut and in my opinion one of the must-have cd's of 2007. If managed properly I have a feeling we'll be talking a lot more about Megan this year.

Album features the hot single The One You Need featuring Fabolous and strong production and collaboation work from Rodney Jerkins,Ne-Yo,Stargate and the Underdogs. "From the first moment I stepped into the studio to work on You, Me & the Radio, I felt as though I was living in a fantasy.Artists like Mary J. Blige, The Notorious B.I.G. and Marvin Gaye are my favorites, and it was that kind of emotional honesty I wanted for my own album." Other hot tracks are the infectious Betcha Didn't Know and Outta My MindCheck it out higly recommended.

[A bit of background info:Megan was a five time winner at Apollo's Amateur Night when she was just 11!]

Mariah does Playboy

Mariah graces the March issue of Heffner's famous publication, Playboy. Although she didn't actually do a shoot for the issue, but used outtakes from the Emancipation of Mimi album cover shoot, I feel this is a natural progression for her given the way she flaunts her wares at the best and worst of times. Come to think of it, it makes sense that she was going to sue that pornstar also called Mariah, lest people would confuse the two....we now know why!

Serena Outclasses Sharapova to Win Australian Open

I know this is mainly a music blog but I had to include this remarkable achievement.

Sky Sports reports that:

Serena Williams claimed the Australian Open title as she proved too powerful for Maria Sharapova.
The unseeded American won 6-1 6-2 in just 63 minutes in Melbourne and win her eighth Grand Slam event.

The 25-year-old made a mockery of her world ranking of 81 going into the tournament with an assured display of power tennis that overwhelmed the Russian.

This makes three Australian Open titles having previously won in 2003 and 2005."This one's right up there with the top," Williams, who dedicated the win to her sister Yetunde, who died in 2003, said.

"I was driven. This morning I woke up and felt different, I felt good".

"It was an awesome win because I had so many critics, so many people talking bad and saying negative things and saying I wasn't fit when I felt that I was really fit and could last three sets and two-and-a-half or three hours no worries."

Williams becomes the second unseeded player in the professional era to lift the title following Chris O'Neill's success in 1978.

She will now move up to 14th in the rankings when they are published on Monday.[Source]

New Ashanti Track: You Can't Deny It feat Jim Jones

Sampling 2pac's Ambitionz Az A Ridah and featuring rapper Jim Jones this song was leaked in the last couple of days and is rumoured to be taken from Ashanti's upcoming album, not sure how true this is,though. I love the track and if this song is in anyway a reflection of her album then there are good things to come. Looks like her collaborative effort on Pac's Life is really paying off and has put her in the right musical direction.
